Call me crazy, but I am a dyed flaming redheaded conservative, alternative rock-loving, tattooed, Sinead O'Connor fan who knows every song from the '50's and '60's, and card carrying member of the Republican party.

Call me crazy. It is okay, really. Laugh even. Crazy people have a sense of humor, too.

The Vermont Teddy Bear Company has recently received considerable protests and public outrage from Mental Health Advocates. The controversy started over the Crazy for You Bear the company is marketing this Valentine's Day.

Are you offended by this bear? I think it is hilarious! As one crazy person, I can tell you this is not offensive. Most seriously crazy people, equipped with straight jackets, wouldn't even have the opportunity to be offended by this bear. They would never see it.

I plan on buying one of these crazy bears for Zombie, as we always laugh about how truly crazy I am.

What do you think, fellow JUs?

Ooooh, that is a nice teddy bear
on Jan 13, 2005

I think that rawks and I want one.  I can't see how that's mocking, poking fun at or otherwise demeaning mentally ill people any more so than mainstream television shows and music videos do already.

I sometimes wonder if it's the 'offended party' that's really doing the complaining, or if it's the so-called advocacy groups that are offended on their behalf.  Sounds to me like this is a case of the latter rather than the former.

No i dont think it's offensive either. Like you said the 'crazy' people wont even be able to see it, so how can it be offensive to them? Maybe to their relatives? I dont know. How can such a harmless toy be offensive?

I personnally think it's cute, with the little heart, i was like Aaawwwww!! Had a good laugh

I vote for the Teddy Bear to be on the market and be bought by sane or insane people

Heather (Missed you lately).

<rant>When Mr Magoo came out, some clowns who proclaimed they were the bad eyesight brigade, trashed it as making fun of people with bad eyesight!  Excuse me!!!!!  I have worn coke bottle bottoms since I was 6!  And I grew up on Mr Magoo!  So shut your pie hole up!  You do not speak for me, and I loved it!

That being said, I would say the same for these clowns!  Shut your pie hole up!  You dont speak for them! Or anyone else that has lost their caboose!  You just think you do!  So get an effing life.<rant>

So how have you and Dead been?  Busy I guess!  Glad to see you back with the perfect post as usual, Mary Poppins!

I think it is mocking and not PC, but I can't help but laugh my ass off!

Glad you liked it! I think it is adorable.

I know...the price is a bit steep, but I think I will still get one. It is fairly large, too!

You are definitely right about this one. The advocacy groups are the ones feigning offense. It actually disgusts me.

Maybe to their relatives?

Well, I showed the bear to Zombie, my mom, and my dad. None of them were offended, and they are relatives of a crazy person.

I vote for the Teddy Bear to be on the market and be bought by sane or insane people

I second that vote!

Oh, how I have missed you all too.

Awesome rant, Dr. I loved it.

My voice may be crazy and my eyesight poor, but I still have a voice and my own opinion, thank you very much.

So how have you and Dead been? Busy I guess! Glad to see you back with the perfect post as usual, Mary Poppins!

OMG our life has been hectic. My parents came in town AGAIN. They just left yesterday. My computer has been reformatted because Zombie purchased me a bigger, faster, hard drive. I didn't touch the computer for days....AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! Thank you for asking.

It isn't PC, but then that is probably why I like it so much!

Next time, call me!  All data saved and new OS installed pain free!

I want that bear.

Dr. Guy

Next time, call me! All data saved and new OS installed pain free!

I may just do that, Dr. Everytime my husband reformats my system he tells me, "This will be the last time." Oh really, then why have I had my system reformatted 4 times last year? I HATE REFORMATTING!!! Nothing is ever the same no matter how much back up is done. It takes me at least 6 months to get everything how I like it and get used to it....by that time, Zombie claims it is time for a new upgrade or reformatting.

Tex

I want that bear.

I know, me too!

Heather, I love it. I want one for my wife. She has an unreasonable fear of teddys, believe it or not. At least if I give her this one, I can tell her it won't be able to grab her while she sleeps
on Jan 14, 2005
Hmm it *may* offend someone, but can you find any humor that DON'T offend someone? That's really funny!

What a perfect solution! And so cute too!

True. I hadn't thought of that. I guess most presents/Teddy bears don't offend people.

ROFL! I LOVE IT!

The fact that anyone could be offended shows just how ridiculous we are!
