Call me crazy, but I am a dyed flaming redheaded conservative, alternative rock-loving, tattooed, Sinead O'Connor fan who knows every song from the '50's and '60's, and card carrying member of the Republican party.

Wish I could have been a fly on the wall at this awards dinner. Way to go, Mr. Eastwood. Make our day!

Eastwood stunned a New York filmmaking audience with his comments, the New York Daily News' Lloyd Grove reported today in his must-read column.

"Michael Moore and I actually have a lot in common - we both appreciate living in a country where there's free expression," Eastwood was quoted as telling the National Board of Review awards dinner in New York Tuesday night.

With a cold glare Eastwood took notice of Moore sitting in the audience and said bluntly and without a smile: "But, Michael, if you ever show up at my front door with a camera - I'll kill you."

The Daily News reports the audience erupted in laughter, and Eastwood grinned. "I mean it," Eastwood said again.

One of the few Republicans in Hollywood, Eastwood had once served as Mayor of Carmel, Calif.

Eastwood made his comments while accepting the Special Filmmaking Achievement prize for "Million Dollar Baby."

Moore was said to be in the rear of the audience when Eastwood made his biting remarks.

Moore also won the group's "Freedom of Expression" award for his Bush-bashing "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Apparently, Moore has not taken kindly to death threats in the past.

The News notes that last year "Moore was outraged when CNN anchor Bill Hemmer suggested during an interview that some folks might want to see him dead."

"Can you think of any other interview in the history of television where a politician or a movie director was asked about people wanting to see him dead?" Moore was quoted as saying.

Moore may have lightened up a bit. His agent told the News: "Michael laughed along with everyone else, and took Mr. Eastwood's comments in the lighthearted spirit in which they were given."

Yeah, I guess we all missed this important last line. So, pretty much this whole thread has been arguing about something that wasn't there in the first place. Clint said it in a lighthearted manner and Michael took it in a lighthearted manner.

Oh well, it was fun arguing anyway.

Goodnight Doc!

'I did not know that LLL was an insult.'
Let's be quite clear about this Dr. Guy - you can't see anything insulting in calling people whose opinions differ from yours 'loony loopy luddites'?
Cleveland Steamer, on the other hand, is - according to you - a 'name caller'.
CS, you are right - Dr. Guy is in dire need of help. 'Physician', heal thyself.

'I did not know that LLL was an insult.'
Let's be quite clear about this Dr. Guy - you see absolutely nothing insulting in calling people 'loony loopy luddites' because they don't agree with you? But when Cleveland Steamer picks you up on this, he becomes - according to you - a 'name caller'? Well, congratulations - you are plumbing new depths of inanity.

Cleveland Steamer (great name, by the way!), you are quite right - I think that Dr. Guy is in urgent need of help. I can only advise you to do what I do, and wear the blind, ranting insults of Dr. Guy and his ilk like a medal. If nothing else (and I suspect there is little else), it's a sign that you're getting under his skin.

You should try to pay attention to the entire conversation latour999 and I were having. To summarize, what we were saying was that political leaning, whether left or right, never results in Canadians shooting at each other. The men we were talking about were leaders of our different political parties. (Of course, I didn't really expect you to know this.)

And while most Americans can jest about it, you take it to the bank.  The only reason we have more serial murderers is we have more people.  As far as I know, the Dems and Repubs are not firing at each other.  I merely pointed out that none are without the sin of loonies.  Of course I did not expect you to understand this, but was hoping you could learn something about your own country in the process.

Apparently you only selectively read my posts.  For if you read all my posts, then you have a real comprehension problem with the English language.  I dont call all who disagree with me LLL, just the LLL ones.  You seem to be either borderline Loony, Loopy and Luddite, or just plain ignorant.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume you just dont know what the hell you are talking about.  I would suggest a good shrink tho.  You need one.

Is this a double post?  Or are you just schizophrenic?  That Shrink for you is looking better all the time.

Nah, that is ironic, not trolling!

I think what the Republicans can never forgive Moore for is one of the scariest but also one of the most effective 5 minutes of film ever seen. The image of Bush sitting in front of a class of children staring blankly into space as terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center was truly chilling film. It sent shivers down the spine to think that this 'bunny caught in the spotlight' has enough nuclear weapons to destroy mankind several times over at his fingertips.
It is this 5 minute image that the Republicans will never be able escape and they will always hate the man who showed it to the country and the world. I have no doubt that a man like Clint Eastwood who has long snce blurred the line of where his movie persona stops and his real life persona starts, meant every word he said.

Nothing to forgive.  If he had jumped up and ran around like a chicken with his head cut off (Ala Kerry), then Mikey Moore would be portraying that as a sign of a man out of touch.

We dont want to forgive Mikey Moore for anything!  After all, it was him and his loony loopy luddite lefties that did more to Elect Bush than any Conservative could have done!

No, recognising that this was a matter of national importance, he should have just quietly excused himself from the situation and done what he needed to do i.e. acted like a president instead of a tailors dummy. That is what Clinton would have done.

That was kindof my point

No, I think it was more Karl Rove and his grass roots campaign that got Bush re-elected.

Nice 'after the fact' John Kerry Quote.  And what did the illustrious John Kerry do?  Remained frozen for 40 minutes.

And when I said we dont want to forgive him for anything, why would we forgive him for doing us a favor?  Kind of stupid thinking if you ask me.

If you can not understand how the magnitude of the situation could freeze a person to their core and hamper their ability to respond, then perhaps you aren't human? Because obviously you seem to think the president's not human or shouldn't be.

I just cant see many world leaders acting in the same manner (and I would bet that Dick Cheney didn't sit staring into space when he heard the news.) None of the Asian leaders reacted this way on news of the Tsunami, an event that dwarfed 9/11 in magnitude. By your reckoning they would have stayed immobile for hours. All Bush showed is he was not up to the job at hand.
